Wireless Emergency Alerts

Wireless Emergency Alerts are free, short text messages that may be sent by the National Weather Service, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the President of the United States. Most mobile phones have the built-in capability to receive them or selectively disable them. Look in the Settings area of your mobile phone to allow or disable several types of alerts.

The Town of Wilton Emergency Management Director can put announcements on the Wireless Emergency Alerts.

CodeRED Emergency Notifications

CodeRED is an emergency notification service that broadcasts notifications of civil emergencies to an app which you download to your mobile phone. Location-based alerts are initiated by authorized public safety officials. Such notifications may include:
    • Severe weather
    • Major fires
    • Missing persons
    • Downed wires
    • Road closures
    • Evacuation notices
    • Boil-water notices

Some CodeRED mobile apps may include access to local radar and satellite imagery. These Apps are available from the Apple App Store and the Android Play Store. Search for "CodeRED". Note that there are a number of apps that mention ‘CodeRed’ but may not be related to the CodeRED civil emergency network. Please read the app descriptions carefully when choosing one.

Also note that these apps depend on, or work best with, Location Services enabled on your mobile phone. Location Services is the ability of your phone to know and report where you are. Some users may prefer to enable Location Services access only for those apps or for those purposes that require it.

The Town of Wilton can not put information of local interest on CodeRED alerts. Some neighboring towns and the New Hampshire State Police do use CodeRED.
