*************************************************************************'The Wilton Recycling Center is also the site of the "Still Good Shed", an area for the reuse of good, clean, useable items. This project is run by volunteers. Items may be taken for one's own use free of charge. Unwanted items may be left as well, but only when there is a volunteer present. Please see the Still Good Shed brochure on this page for more details.

Several refresher notes: Please - - - -
- Cover your load, no matter how close or far away you live from the recycling center.
- Drive slow entering and leaving the recycling center.
- Be watchful of other vehicles and people when pulling into or backing out of a parking space.
- Remember the flow of traffic is one way.
- Have patience - when we are busy and learning the new payment system – we have 2 hands and 2 feet and they are going as fast as they can go!
- Recyclables – Questions? Just ask – we are happy to help.
A few tips to remember:
- Corrugated cardboard – “Ruffles has ridges” – so does corrugated cardboard, look at the edge. Accepted items: with or without pictures, shiny or not and brown paper bags. No wax boxes.
- Glass – food grade bottles or jars only. No dishes, ceramic, plate glass – deposit in landfill.
- Steel cans – food grade only and includes aluminum cans – NOT aluminum beverage cans.
- Aluminum beverage cans – beverage cans ONLY.
- Plastics #1 (see thru and bottles only), #2 (solid colors, various sizes and containers, and #2 translucent containers (milk, water jugs and many more). Look at the bottom.
- Plastic bags/film collection box by the office stairs for the Trex program.
- Book Bin – hard cover/paperback books, CD’s, DVD’s (closed bag), old or new books.
- Clothing – St. Pauly shed. Clothing, shoes, linens, stuff toys etc., clean in bags. Worn/torn OK.
Other reminders:
- Batteries – lead acid accepted – no leaking cells or cracked batteries and no missing caps. Alkaline batteries go into your closed garbage bag and into household trash. In the near future we will not be accepting rechargeable, NiCad, Lithium, Li-Ion, Li-Po, NiMh, Button/Coin etc. unless we charge a fee. Take these to Lowes, Home Depot etc.
- Metals - have your metals checked. We collect #1 heavy and non-ferrous metals separately.
- Demolition/Construction/Landfill – Fees apply – See attendant at the scale house. Payment due at time of visit.
- Only household garbage in the household trash window. No construction, clean out items etc.
- Electronics – Fees apply – See attendant.
- All solid waste trash is household garbage only. Must be in close bags. No trash from clean-out of garages, sheds, basements, rooms or yards and no bulky waste (furniture/hoses etc.) or construction debris. These items cause issues with the compactor.
- The brush pile has ongoing issues that needs to be resolved. Costly repairs to the chipper is a burden on all of us. NO stumps, lumber, metal, plastic, brush over 5” in diameter or yard waste. This is a service we are providing, therefore “If you see something – say something”. If these problems continue all loads will need to be checked in the future. This is unfair for those who respect the requirements and appreciate or need this convenience.
We thank you all for your continued cooperation and support!
