In 1974 the Wilton Lyndeborough Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Association was formed with Volunteer EMT and Advanced First Aid Providers and one used Cadillac that was stationed in the Wilton Town Hall. In 1988, the service obtained the present facility on Forest Road (NH Route 31) in Wilton. In 1997, the service expanded, and the Town of Temple joined the Association and the name was changed to Wilton, Lyndeborough, Temple, Ambulance Association. A second ambulance was added and stationed at the Temple Fire Station. In 2004, the second ambulance was moved to the Forest Road facility. In 2003, the Ambulance Association Board of Directors made the commitment to Paramedic coverage and hired Per-Diem Paramedics to staff the ambulance. In 2006, Weekday Per-Diem EMT/EMT-Intermediate coverage was added. In 2007, the Town of Wilton took over the operations of the ambulance. The Ambulance Association then morphed into a benevolent association for the membership and ownership of the facility.
In 2010, the name of the service was changed to the “Town of Wilton Ambulance”.
In 2012, we started a “Driver/Non-Medical” program where personnel with no medical training could join the service, learn how to drive the ambulance, and assist with patients while being overseen by the licensed providers. This gains the personnel valuable experience prior to entering EMT Class. The “Non-Medical” personnel are volunteers and do not get compensated but do get their EMT Class paid for. After successful completion of their EMT Class they are required to complete 1 year of service with the department. In 2013, the volunteer status of the EMT’s and Advanced EMT’s were changed to “On-Call” personnel.
