DaffodilsNotice a sudden proliferation of daffodils on the downtown hillside? The project to create a riot of color on that Town Hall hillside was conceived by resident Jennifer Beck, who said she had wanted to do that for nearly 30 years. The Wilton Main Street Association’s Design Committee, who tends the town’s downtown gardens and the Main Street Park, took up the challenge and has been planting bulbs each year.

DaffodilsLast fall, one cold morning, road agent Brian Adams used his considerable talents to dig trenches across the hillside so 4,000 more bulbs, donated by Ms. Beck, could make their home on Wilton’s hillside. A few resident volunteers helped plant the bulbs by bucket loads and dig them in. “They are all naturalizing species of daffodils, so they are going to continue to spread. I can see a future spring event when they bloom and inviting people from all around to celebrate Main Street”, said Jennifer.

Tree in Colley ParkAlso, for those of who mourn the removal of trees from our town to manage the power line corridors, take heart. This Arbor Day, Eversource donated several beautiful trees and with the help of tree service company Asplundh, planted them downtown. A young three-Tree on Riverwalkflowered maple is wearing a red ribbon in Cooley Park and replaces the diseased ash. Three new maples now line the Riverwalk by the police station and will soon add some much needed shade for visitors and the river’s wildlife.
